Michael Mayberry, He is a professional photographer and a cosplayer. He is one of the best cosplayers/photographers we have encountered yet. Perfect to be Leon From Residend Evil. We also Asked him a couple of Questions. His work reflects his love for the cosplay. You can watch his Complete Gallery and Interview below:
1. Tell us about yourself first.
My name’s Michael Mayberry and outside of cosplay, I’m a professional photographer specializing in sports. My favorite sport to cover is football because it’s what I played in high school. The funnest game I did was a Division 1 college game between Oklahoma University and Texas A&M. I also love herpetology and have two frogs and a gecko.
2.There are a number of games like mortal kombat, Dead or alive etc but Why Resident Evil Cosplay? (anything special)
My dad’s a high school teacher and for as long as the series has been around, he’s had several students talk about. When I was 17, I was at a fair where they were selling games and I saw Resident Evil 4 and 0. I held them up and said to the cashier “Which of these did people like better?” and he replied with great enthusiasm “Four, four, FOUR!” I really liked it and have gotten a couple others since.
3. Tell us about your Favorite game.
Some of my favorites are Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Blitz II, Super Mario 64, Batman Arkham City, and anything Wolfenstein related. Wolfenstein 3D was the first game I ever played when I was four and I remember coming home from school everyday to play it. I actually listen to the soundtrack all the time still.
4. One thing that makes you angry?
I’d probably say crudeness of people towards attractive cosplayers. Though more commonly seen with girl, I’ve seen guys get their fair share of weird comments as well. I have a female friend who’s a very attractive cosplayer and I hate how insensitive people can be towards her. As she once said, judge cosplay not by the appearance of the individual, but by how well the costume is made.
5. Future Of Gaming?
I hope to see more games that (kind of like Silent Hill) have various chapters of the game be affected by voices made by the individual player. I do think we’ll see more motion required games between the Wii and the Kinnect.
6. Piracy for Games are very common now days, Torrents etc. are big source of piracy don’t you think it should be stopped?
Well to answer your question of should it be, yes. Do I think it will, no. Hackers are always finding new ways around everything. Me though, I’ve never been into any of that. Since the days of renting at a Blockbuster, I’ve always been used to buying/renting the old fashioned way.
7. When did you start cosplaying and how long for?
Well actually I didn’t even hear the term “cosplay” until I made a DeviantArt account. Right after high school in 2009, I had a VERY good Freddy Krueger costume that I took photos in and made a couple mock movie posters out of them. My media instructed really liked them. I decided to do Leon after I saw Resident Evil: Afterlife and decided I wanted to represent what I thought he’d look like in an actual film. After I made a DA account was when I learned about cosplay.
8. What attracts you to cosplay?
The idea of bringing the characters to life.
9. Share 1 funny moment or incident that happened to you doing cosplay or which makes you laugh?
There was this girl I was friends with and she asked why I bought so many military related clothes and I told her about Leon and Resident Evil. She gave me this look of intrigue and confusion. She asked why I was “into that kind of weird stuff.” It turned out she thought the name of the series was Rectum of Evil.
10. Your Hobbies?
Photography, photo manipulating, acting, working out, martial arts, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy watching anything by Mike Judge.
11. Which cosplay are you planning in Future?
I plan on redoing my Degeneration Leon cosplay and a good friend of mine is cosplaying with me as Claire. We have an awesome poster in mind. I haven’t fully decided, but I was actually toying with the idea of doing a Wesker cosplay. I’ll say this, I won’t do it if I don’t think it’ll turn out well.
12. Any advice you want to give to cosplayers who are new in cosplay?
Expect some extremists, but overall just have fun with it and you’ll meet a lot of. Cool people. Be advised though, cosplay costs a lot!
13. What is your Dream?
I want to be able to shoot one NFL game, meet Mike Judge, and be the best husband I can to whoever my wife may be.
